Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said on Saturday that compared with New York and London, the crime rate in Lahore is low.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, she said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s performance had been acknowledged not only inside, but also outside the country. “CM Maryam is way ahead of the chief ministers of the other three provinces when it comes to performance,” she claimed.
Azma further said that over 90 development projects had been launched in the province ever since Maryam took office as the chief minister. “Similarly, the law and order situation in Punjab is better as the crime rate has dropped,” she said, adding that the police had been equipped with latest weapons so that they could fight against militants and katcha dacoits.
The minister said that whenever any untoward incident took place in the province, drones rushed to the spot. “Over 67 bulletproof vehicles have been purchased for the CTD and Special Branch officials,” she informed.
She said that thousands of tonnes of garbage had been disposed of under the Suthra Punjab project so far. “The government plans to install a power plant of 50 megawatts,” she said, adding that Apni Chat, Apna Ghar was a large project, which had also been acknowledged by the world. “Out of 125,000 houses the government plans to build, 50,000 have been completed.”
Azma informed that so far one million people had applied for houses under the project.
She went on to say that electric buses were part of the chief minister’s vision to provide people access to quality means of transport at cheaper rates. “Initially, the project has been launched in nine districts of the Punjab, while in the second phase, they will be launched in 20 districts.”
The minister informed that the government would launch Orange Line and Red Line projects in Faisalabad. “In all, there will be 28 stations,” she said, adding that entire Gujranwala city would be linked through metro buses.
