Pakistan’s economy recorded a growth of 3.71 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025-26, it was reported on Tuesday.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development Ahsan Iqbal on social media platform X said that the Q1 growth was 2.15 percentage points higher than the corresponding quarter of FY25, calling it a qualitative shift in the country’s economic trajectory.
He noted that during FY25, quarterly GDP growth remained uneven, standing at 1.56 percent, 2.03 percent, 2.66 percent and 6.17 percent.
In contrast, the current fiscal year has started with growth that is more than double that of the comparable quarter last year.
Ahsan Iqbal highlighted that the improvement is being driven largely by industrial growth. He said industrial output expanded by 9.38 percent in the first quarter of FY26, compared to just 0.12 percent growth in the same quarter last year.
The minister added that the economic rebound has come despite major challenges, including the flood shock in 2025, fiscal tightening measures, withdrawal of energy subsidies and rising food inflation.
He said the latest figures indicate growing resilience in the economy and reflect the impact of policy adjustments aimed at stabilisation and recovery.
