Barrister Gauhar, Chief Whip submit replies to objections over Opposition Leader nomination

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Barrister Gauhar and the party’s Chief Whip Wednesday submitted their responses to objections raised regarding the nomination of the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly.

Talking to the media, Barrister Gauhar said the party had withdrawn its petitions from the Election Commission and the Peshawar High Court, adding that there were now no objections pending that required further replies.

PTI leader Aamir Dogar said that, with the objections addressed, the Speaker of the National Assembly should proceed with the nomination of the Opposition Leader and issue a formal notification.

Meanwhile, officials from the National Assembly Secretariat said that objections had been sent on four previous occasions, but a response was received for the first time. Adviser and Special Secretary Muhammad Mushtaq said the submitted documents would now be reviewed in detail before any further action.

He said the formal announcement would be made once the seat of the Opposition Leader is declared legally vacant. Following the announcement, he added, PTI would be able to submit the nomination papers of its Opposition Leader in accordance with the law.
