Asserting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was Pakistan’s pride, Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan said on Wednesday that had he been in Lahore, he would have received KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi during his recent visit to the provincial capital, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He was speaking to the media at the premises of the PA.
Referring to Afridi’s visit to the Punjab Assembly which was marked by chaos and commotion, he, however, said that no such person could be allowed to enter the assembly who introduced himself as a member of the KP Assembly, but showed nothing to prove that.
The speaker further said that the Punjab government was afraid that there were some people in the KP CM’s entourage who had burnt the national flag or attacked the state institutions. “We were worried that those accompanying the chief minister might create scenes which were witnessed on May 9, 2023.”
He said it was his desire that there was political stability in the country. “I wish and pray for the country’s prosperity,” he said, and added, “I also pray for peace in my country.”
Ahmad stressed the need for developing a culture in which nobody thought that it was his political right to attack his opponent’s home. “I pray that all people in the country are treated alike,” the speaker said, adding, “How it is possible that the TLP is banned for committing a crime, while the PTI is spared for committing the same offence.”
He informed he had received the KP Assembly speaker’s letter, but he had not read it. “I am sure that the speaker must have written good things in the letter.”
Tarar reacts to KP CM’s adviser’s remarks
Commenting on KP CM’s adviser’s remarks about Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said it was unfortunate that such foul language was used in the past, and was being used even today.
“I condemn these remarks and ask these people to mind their language and start respecting women. Otherwise, we know how to make people respect women.”
Marriyum Aurangzeb’s reaction
Commenting on the remarks made by the KP CM’s adviser about Azma Bukhari, senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that this was PTI’s vitriolic culture. “Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is responsible for the development of this kind of mentality,” she said, adding that he developed it and nurtured it.
