Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday met with Sohail Mahmood, the Secretary General-designate of the D-8 organization, the Foreign Office said.
According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, Sohail Mahmood briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on his future plans and informed him that he will soon assume his responsibilities at the D-8 Secretariat.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the organization’s mission in line with the vision set by the D-8 leadership.
The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Sohail Mahmood on his new role and expressed best wishes for his tenure. He also appreciated Mahmood’s previous services as Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary and as Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI).
Highlighting the significance of D-8, the Deputy Prime Minister described the organization as “very effective and viable” and said that the appointment of Ambassador Sohail Mahmood as Secretary General could revitalize the D-8, further strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations among its member countries.
