Bollywood bets $231m on six mega films as 2026 set to be a defining year

After a mixed performance at the box office in 2025, Bollywood is gearing up for a high-stakes comeback in 2026, banking on a slate of mega-budget films that could redefine the industry’s commercial trajectory.

While 2025 saw sporadic successes, 2026 is widely being viewed as a potential turning point, with massive investments riding on a handful of ambitious projects.

Industry estimates suggest that just six major films scheduled for release in 2026 carry a combined budget of approximately $231 million, underlining both the scale of ambition and the financial risks involved.

Ramayana claims the No. 1 spot

Ranbir Kapoor collaborated with Ayan Mukerji who lifted the VFX bar in Bollywood with Brahmastra to produce the movie.

They are eagerly waiting for his next project with Nitesh Tiwari, where he will portray Lord Ram in Ramayana. The legendary mythological series is said to have a budget of 4000 crores.

For the first part the producers are said to have spent a staggering 900 crores.

The risk is enormous, Nevertheless, Nitesh Tiwari is the man we trust because he has already made the highest grossing Indian film in the international market with Dangal (2059.04 crores).

The precise date of release has not been disclosed so far however, the film featuring Sunny Deol, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Ravi Dubey is set to be out during the Diwali season in 2026.

Bollywood’s Badshah claims the No. 2 spot

 

 

In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan made a remarkable achievement by getting three consecutive hits. The fans are now really looking forward to seeing him together with his daughter, Suhana Khan in cinemas for the first time. Siddharth Anand is the director of King which is the second most costly Bollywood movie of 2026 with a rumored budget of 300 crores.

Dhurandhar claims the No. 3 spot

 

 

There is a huge list of movies to be released in 2026 that are highly anticipated but Indian cinema is very much curious about the whirlwind that the movie Dhurandhar 2 will create at the box office. Due to a big budget of 250 crores Ranveer Singh’s movie is set to be released on March 19.

Border 2 claims the No. 4 spot
