Complaint against LHC CJ Aalia, Justice Gul filed in SJC

A complaint has been lodged with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Abhar Gul Khan, seeking a formal review of their academic qualifications and professional eligibility to hold judicial office.

The complaint, reportedly filed by multiple individuals, mostly parents of female district judges, has triggered fresh scrutiny of the vetting process for senior members of the judiciary at a time when institutional integrity remains at the centre of public debate.

According to the complaint, Justice Abhar Gul Khan’s academic credentials are “suspicious,” and the petitioners have asked the SJC to summon his complete educational record and carry out a thorough examination before his confirmation as a permanent judge.

The complainants insist that verification of their degrees is necessary to ensure that only qualified individuals remain entrusted with judicial authority.

The petition argues that both Justice Neelum and Justice Abhar Gul are “not fit to remain on the bench” if their qualifications fail to meet the required standard.

It urges the SJC to conduct an independent review of their academic backgrounds and, should the allegations be substantiated, remove both judges from their posts.

The complaint reiterates that Justice Abhar Gul’s degree “is not genuine”, calling for his academic documents to be formally requisitioned.

In addition to questions over academic records, the complainants have accused Chief Justice Aalia Neelum of interfering in the affairs of the district judiciary.

The complaint claims that female district judges in Lahore are being specifically targeted and transferred to distant stations, which is discriminatory.

According to the channel report, the complaint is forwarded from the parents of the affected female judges and judicial officers, and they have requested anonymity, citing personal safety concerns. The names of the complainants have therefore not been disclosed.
