COPENHAGEN: The government of Greenland will participate in a meeting next week with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Danish officials, amid renewed American interest in the Arctic island.
Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt confirmed Greenland’s involvement, telling Danish broadcaster DR that her government had requested the meeting. Rubio earlier announced that the talks would go ahead.
The development follows comments from the White House that President Donald Trump has “actively discussed” the possibility of purchasing Greenland. While the administration emphasized a preference for diplomacy, it did not rule out military options.
The meeting is expected to address Washington’s strategic interests in the Arctic, as well as Greenland’s role in shaping its own future alongside Denmark.
