Governor Kundi says KP govt should abandon TTP narrative, support state policy

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has termed the provincial chief minister’s demand for evidence of cross-border terrorism as “ridiculous”, arguing that security forces and civilians are being targeted on a daily basis.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, addressing a press conference on Tuesday, he said Afghan soil was being used for terrorist activities and urged the KP government to discard what he described as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) narrative and instead align itself with the state policy.

The governor said the law-and-order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had deteriorated and called on the provincial administration to focus its attention on restoring peace, noting that development and the optimal use of resources could only proceed in a stable environment.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-backed KP Governor Kundi questioned what kind of negotiations could be held with those who, in his words, “do not recognise the Constitution of Pakistan.”

Kundi further urged Afghanistan to prevent its territory from being used for terrorism.

He said Pakistan’s law-enforcement agencies were making significant sacrifices to ensure peace in KP, adding that the world today acknowledged the professionalism and commitment of the Pakistan Army.

The governor criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership for issuing negative and attention-seeking statements in order to remain in the news.

He said he was surprised by KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s behaviour in Karachi despite the Sindh government providing him full protocol during his visit.

Replying to a question, Governor Kundi told the media persons that he had requested the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, to build new stadiums in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
