Iranian nation strong and vigilant, says Khamenei

TEHRAN: Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, praised the current round of pro-regime rallies taking place throughout Iran Tuesday. He portrayed Iranian citizens as having great power, capability, and political awareness, accompanied by an explicit threat to the United States to abandon its deceptive policy vis-à-vis Iran.

Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cited foreign news organizations as evidence to support his views that the mass protests held to show support for his administration had effectively derailed plans to destabilize Iran by foreign agents. He further indicated that the plans were to be executed by “hired agents” within Iran.

“The massive demonstrations of the Iranian nation foiled the plans of the enemies, because these plans were to be implemented internally by mercenaries, but the Iranian nation held firm,” he was quoted as saying.

The supreme leader urged that Iran’s relationship with America should not be based on force and the use of Iranian allies against other nations, urging America’s new administration to reassess and rethink Iran’s US policy. The Iranian people continued to be alert against foreign interference and economic oppression.

Addressing historical parallels and warning US President Donald Trump, Khamenei said, “Pharaoh, Nimrod, and Reza Shah, who ruled in the past, all collapsed because of their arrogance and tyrannical nature. Whatever happened to Pharaoh, Nimrod, and Reza Shah, Trump will face the same fate.” This was as reported, without any further clarification being needed.

He warned America about putting faith in what it called tools and proxies by claiming that this would not lead to the intended outcome. He asserted that Iran would not yield to threats and intimidation from outside.

The comments follow increased tensions with the US, which has recently imposed financial pressures and issued threats of military intervention. The US has imposed strict sanctions against countries that trade with Iran, increasing the pressure on the Iranian government.

Anti-government protests have erupted in a number of Iranian cities in the past week, with protesters rallying behind the government and against foreign interference. The Iranian state media has reported the protests as a display of national unity. Thus, according to observers, statements made by the Iranian leader tend to establish the tone for foreign and domestic politics, especially when the country finds itself faced with diplomatic pressure. This was evident in the latest statements made by the Iranian leader.
