Trump fuelling instability and violence in Iran, UN envoy

UNITED NATIONS: Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeed Iravani, has laid blame on President Donald Trump for creating turmoil and violence inside Iran because of his statements and policies, developing an attack on Washington that’s impacting Iranian sovereignty and national security, according to Iran’s foreign ministry.

In a letter to the UN Security Council, Iravani expresses his views concerning the recent assertions and moves by Trump which he says lead to chaos in Iran and the rising threat of bloodshed. He singles out the US and Iran’s ally, Israel, for policies and actions which have claimed the lives of innocent civilians and says the international community is oblivious to “dangerous provocations.”

“The United States is pursuing a policy of regime change,” said the Iranian mission to the UN. “The objective of these actions is to create a pretext for military intervention in Iran,” it added.

According to Iravani, these policies have not worked before and will never work. He urges the Security Council to enforce international law by denying Iran what it perceives as interference in the internal affairs of the Iranian government under the guise of human rights and security within the region.

Iranian-American relations have been made more acute by recent events, which have included Iranian protests and the aggressive statements of US politicians. Iranian leaders believe that foreign interference is taking advantage of unrest in the country to destabilize the Iranian regime, which the Iranian government denies is happening.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, also condemned the statements of the German chancellor, saying that Tehran has never seen such hypocrisy with regard to human rights from any government, including that of Germany. Araghchi firmly stated that Iran has the worst experience of receiving lessons on Human rights from any state, including Germany. Araghchi further justified that the leaders of the latter remained mum over the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president.

He also commented on Germany’s stance on the Gaza conflict, saying it did not voice its opinions despite what he estimates as tens of thousands of civilian casualties. ‘Those who remain mute amidst mass killings should be ashamed of themselves before lecturing others on ethics,’ he stated.

The German position, however, has remained consistent in defending its foreign policy in terms of human rights and international law, against allegations of selective outrage. The swap is reflective of increasing Iranian diplomacy divergent from those of Western nations.

In this regard, the article emphasizes the gap that is Widening between Iran and the West, and how the Unstable Middle East is resulting in the continued sanctioning of Iran, and the UN deliberating over the issue of sovereignty and intervention.
