The Ministry of Interior has conveyed to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that following the promulgation of local government ordinance, its old laws have been dissolved and that it is bound to hold local bodies’ (LBs) polls in Islamabad as per new laws, it was reported on Thursday.
Sources told the 24News TV channel that in a letter, the ministry had asked the ECP that it should now de-notify the schedule announced for the elections.
Sources informed that the notification de-notifying the election schedule would be issued soon after consultations between the members of the commission.
LBs were scheduled to be held in Islamabad on February 15.
