Pakistani actress and host Zainab Qayyum, widely known as ZQ, has raised her voice against the rising social and economic divide in Pakistan. Her remarks came after the recent tragic incident at Karachi’s Gul Plaza.
On Instagram, Zainab shared her thoughts, saying her feed “shows two Pakistans: one of the elite, and one of the poor.” She described the elite Pakistan as safe, secure, and distant from the struggles of ordinary people. It is a world of lavish weddings, designer clothing, and cosmetic procedures.
In contrast, she said, the working class is struggling under a collapsing economy. Many suffer without hope for justice or accountability. She highlighted how ordinary people are “dying under the weight of social and economic pressures.”
Her post struck a chord with social media users. Many expressed agreement and sadness over the situation. One user wrote, “We’ve seen this gap since childhood, but now it has grown even more.” Another said, “This is not just Karachi; it reflects Pakistan as a whole.”
Some commenters criticized the growing inequality, saying, “The rich are getting richer from our taxes while ordinary people burn.” Others warned that social and economic divisions are dangerously widening, accompanied by a lack of empathy and moral consciousness.
