MANAMA: Bahrain has just followed the United Arab Emirates in accepting the invitation to join the Gaza Board of Peace, an international initiative started by the United States to support the Gaza Strip.
“The invitation was issued from the US side, and it was accepted by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa,” the Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, adding that the message is that the Bahraini government’s decision reflects the country’s stance in full support of the execution of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is necessary for the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain looks forward to the Board of Peace achieving its objectives: cooperation, stability, and development and prosperity for all,” said an official statement from the Bahraini Ministry.
“The Board of Peace, an American proposal, extends a call to world leaders to participate in the monitoring of the rebuilding of Gaza, among other peace-related matters,” according to a report. “For a permanent seat, a contribution of $1 billion is needed, with a three-year tenure renewable at the discretion of the chairman,” a report states.
Though it was termed a mechanism to supervise Gaza reconstruction, its charter does not limit its roles to Gaza but may extend to the wider region.
This comes after the decision of the UAE government to join the board, having been welcomed by the president, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, showing his support. Furthermore, the US President Trump has invited other leaders across the globe, including the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shahbaz Sharif.
What is observed about the board by international watchers is that it represents an American-led action for cooperation in reconstruction, development, and peace-building in this part of Gaza, an area that continues to be beset by conflict. Through this action, a commitment of financial aid has been made.
Bahrain’s participation represents a growing degree of engagement in US-led Gulf peace efforts. Analysts point out that this type of engagement might enhance cooperation between involved nations, thereby increasing a degree of well-structured planning in Gaza.
The Board of Peace enters as talks also go on regarding stability in the region, the revival of the economy, and assisting the Palestinian people, largely emphasizing the increased relevance of multilateral institutions in dealing with humanitarian and political issues in conflict areas. On the other hand, Bahrain’s official statements emphasize that the country remains committed to supporting international efforts aimed at sustainable development, cooperation, and the protection of Palestinian rights, aligning its foreign policy with broader regional and global peace objectives.
