LAYYAH: The district administration has approved the installation of 161 new water filtration plants across Layyah to ensure the provision of safe drinking water to residents.
The decision was taken at a review meeting of relevant departments chaired by Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shabbir Ahmed Dogar, Assistant Commissioner Chaubara Nadeem Arshad, senior officers from education, health, development, WASA, and officials of the Punjab Clean Water Authority.
Presiding over the meeting, Mr Dogar said the initiative was in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, under which the provision of basic civic facilities to the public remained the top priority of the district administration. He described access to clean drinking water as a fundamental human need and stressed that concrete steps were being taken to improve public health in the district.
According to officials, of the total 161 proposed plants, 58 will be installed in Tehsil Layyah, 43 in Tehsil Karor and 60 in Tehsil Chaubara. In addition, 43 water filtration plants previously installed under the supervision of the district administration have been made functional and handed over to the Punjab Clean Water Authority for monitoring and operation.
The deputy commissioner directed that the installation process be carried out in a transparent manner, ensuring high standards of quality and adherence to timelines. He warned that negligence or delays would not be tolerated.
Mr Dogar said the availability of clean drinking water would help improve public health and prevent waterborne diseases. He instructed the concerned departments to submit regular progress reports and ensure the project is implemented as a model scheme in accordance with the provincial government’s public welfare agenda.
