A historic Grand Jirga was held in Datta Khel tehsil of North Waziristan under the leadership of the local Brigade Commander, in which a large number of tribal elders and notables from Datta Khel, Dwa Toi, Awaz Khel and surrounding areas participated.
During the Jirga, the tribal elders unanimously condemned terrorism and subversive activities in the strongest terms and reaffirmed their collective responsibility for establishing lasting peace in the area. They vowed that no terrorist elements would be given shelter, facilitation, or any kind of support under any circumstances.
The Jirga decided that the presence of suspicious individuals and non-local elements would be immediately reported to the security forces. It was also agreed that all existing orders regarding curfew and movement restrictions would be strictly implemented.
The tribal elders assured full cooperation in identifying, arresting, and handing over to the authorities those involved in the tragic incident that occurred at Datta Khel Bazaar on January 21. The Jirga made it clear that if facilitation or support to terrorists is proven in any village, the elders of that village will be held directly responsible.
It was further unanimously agreed that after the identification of the killer of the martyred soldier, the culprit’s house would be demolished, his family expelled from the area, and no effort would be spared to ensure the strictest punishment under the law.
The tribal elders also guaranteed that in the future, no terrorist, suspicious, or irrelevant person would be allowed to enter Datta Khel Bazaar, and that effective tribal-level measures would be taken to monitor and secure the market.
At the conclusion of the Jirga, the tribal elders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the writ of the state, restoring peace and order in the region, and extending full cooperation to the security forces, stating that the people of North Waziristan stand shoulder to shoulder with the state against the enemies of peace.
