The hit television series The Traitors is set to make the leap from screen to stage, with a new theatrical adaptation scheduled to open in London in 2027. The production marks a significant moment for the franchise, signalling its expansion beyond television into live performance.
The stage adaptation is being developed by Studio Lambert, the production company behind the original TV series, in collaboration with Neal Street Productions, co-founded by director Sam Mendes. According to the producers, the show will be a “bold and surprising” theatrical reimagining rather than a direct recreation of the television format.
Playwright John Finnemore has been commissioned to write the production. Finnemore is well known for his work in radio and television, particularly the comedy series Cabin Pressure. Direction will be handled by Robert Hastie, the deputy artistic director of the National Theatre and an Olivier Award-winning director.
While The Traitors is best known for its high-stakes tension and psychological gameplay on television, the creative team has suggested that the stage version will reinterpret these elements for a live audience. The emphasis will be on adapting the central ideas of suspicion, trust and deception into a theatrical experience, rather than replicating the mechanics of the TV show.
At present, no further details have been announced. Information regarding the storyline, casting, venue and exact performance dates has yet to be revealed. The producers have indicated that more announcements will follow as development continues.
The move to the stage reflects growing interest in adapting popular screen formats for theatre, offering audiences a new way to experience familiar concepts. With an established creative team and major production companies involved, the London production of The Traitors is expected to be closely watched by both theatre-goers and fans of the television series.
Further details about the production are expected to be announced at a later date.
