United States reaffirms long-term partnership with Pakistan

The United States has renewed its commitment to Pakistan, calling the country an important partner for the future as America prepares to mark its 250th anniversary in 2026.

In a statement issued from the US Embassy in Islamabad, Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker said the milestone offers a chance for reflection and renewal, focusing on strengthening democracy, boosting economic growth, and reinforcing responsible global leadership. She said strong nations build strong partnerships and emphasized that cooperation between the US and Pakistan is based on shared values and mutual interests.

Baker highlighted the role of democratic institutions in ensuring stability, noting that the US Constitution was designed to protect freedoms through checks and balances. Drawing a comparison with Pakistan, she said both countries have faced challenges while working to protect national priorities and strengthen their systems. She added that the United States seeks collaboration with Pakistan grounded in respect for sovereignty and common goals.

Turning to economic ties, Baker said the US economy thrives on innovation, entrepreneurship, and the rule of law. She explained that Washington’s forward-looking approach links founding principles with modern priorities such as prosperity and long-lasting partnerships. She pointed to increased economic engagement since early 2025, including high-level visits by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to Washington.

She also referred to new agreements between American and Pakistani companies in areas such as mining, critical minerals, and infrastructure. Supported by US financing, these projects aim to create jobs, strengthen economic resilience, and improve prosperity in both countries.

Baker stressed that security cooperation remains a key part of the relationship. She said both nations are working together to combat terrorism and extremism while respecting each other’s sovereignty. According to her, close coordination in security and intelligence helps protect citizens and builds trust between the two sides.

She also acknowledged the contributions of overseas Pakistanis living in the United States, praising their achievements in medicine, science, business, and community life. While noting that visas are a privilege, she said Pakistani immigrants and the diaspora play an important role in strengthening American society and promoting understanding between the two countries.

Concluding her message, Baker expressed confidence in the future of US-Pakistan relations. She said recent engagements and agreements show the benefits of cooperation based on respect and shared economic and security interests. Reaffirming Washington’s commitment, she added that Pakistan’s resilience and strategic importance provide an opportunity to build a lasting partnership focused on peace, prosperity, and progress in the years ahead.
