A nationwide polio immunization campaign will begin across Punjab from February 2, aiming to protect children in the province from the life-threatening polio virus and prevent its spread. Adeel Tasawar, head of the Polio Eradication Program, said this campaign is extremely important for children’s health, and the government is making every effort to reach as many children as possible with the polio drops.
Speaking in Lahore, Adeel Tasawar shared details of the campaign, saying that in Lahore, the campaign will last for seven days, while in other districts it will continue for four days. He explained that the schedule for each district has been carefully planned to ensure that every child receives the polio drops and that no child is left unprotected.
According to him, during this campaign, over 17.8 million children will be given polio drops. These children will be under the age of five, as this age group is most vulnerable to the polio virus. The staff participating in the campaign are specially trained to administer the drops and will also educate parents that the polio drops are completely safe and do not cause any harm to children.
Adeel Tasawar further stated that more than 200,000 workers will take part in the campaign. These workers will go door-to-door to administer polio drops to children. They will also provide parents with information about the importance of polio vaccination to ensure awareness about child health in the community.
He added that during the campaign, the provincial government will monitor the performance of polio teams in all districts. Reports from each team will be compiled to ensure that every child receives the drops. He also appealed to parents and community leaders to cooperate fully and ensure that their children receive the polio drops.
The head of the Polio Eradication Program emphasized that polio is a preventable disease that can only be stopped by giving these drops. If children do not receive them on time, they face a higher risk of contracting the disease. He added that the success of this campaign is crucial for the health and future of every child, and all parents must participate actively.
The Punjab government’s campaign aims to reduce the risks of polio in the province and ensure that every child can live a healthy and safe life.
