Arshad Sharif Murder Case: Widow approaches Constitutional Court seeking judicial commission

Soumya Arshad, the widow of late journalist Arshad Sharif, has approached the Constitutional Court, seeking further judicial intervention in the case related to her husband’s killing.

In her petition, Soumya Arshad requested the court to constitute a high-level judicial commission to investigate all aspects of the case with the assistance of international experts. She also urged the court to continue proceedings initiated under her suo motu notice, instead of disposing of the matter.

The petitioner argued that rather than settling the case, the nine individuals named as accused should be summoned before the court and directed to respond to the allegations. She maintained that none of the persons named by Arshad Sharif’s mother were included in the investigation, which, she said, raised serious questions about the credibility and completeness of the probe.

Soumya Arshad further requested the court to summon the named individuals and seek their explanations. She also called for the confiscation of properties allegedly owned by the accused in Kenya and Pakistan.

The court is expected to take up the petition for consideration at a later date.
