‘Dorr’ faces backlash over casting & controversial scene

The popular Pakistani soap drama Dorr, airing on Express Entertainment, has recently come under scrutiny for controversial casting and cringe-worthy content. Written by Muhammad Asif, directed by M. Danish Behlm, and produced by Gold Bridge Media, the drama features a large ensemble cast including Usman Pirzada, Seemi Pasha, Farah Hussain, Haroon Shahid, Zain Afzal, Aliya Ali, and Mohsin Ejaz. The series revolves around the classic ‘saas-bahu’ and family politics theme.

The drama has so far aired 75 episodes, attracting a steady viewership of around 500,000 per episode. However, a scene from recent episodes has sparked widespread criticism on social media. In the scene, an elderly character, Kirmani, is shown forcefully arranging the wedding of a young woman, Feroza, played by Aliya Ali. Adding to the controversy, Kirmani addresses Farah Sadia’s character as ‘Ammaa’ despite looking significantly older than her, creating a visual mismatch that many viewers found jarring.

Social media users were quick to react, criticizing both the casting and the scene’s content. One viewer remarked, “Don’t call her Amaa ji, call her Behen ji,” while another wrote, “Farah Sadia, you could have done much better than this pathetic drama.” Many fans highlighted that the show seemed to imitate Indian soap opera tropes and promoted outdated and unethical storytelling.

Despite the backlash, Dorr continues to air, with viewers closely watching how the storyline unfolds. The incident has reignited discussions about casting choices, content standards, and originality in Pakistani television dramas. Many industry watchers emphasize the importance of thoughtful casting and age-appropriate roles, noting that such mismatches can impact audience perception and credibility of the show.
