The Punjab government has declared a five-day holiday in Lahore from February 4 to February 8, giving residents a long break ahead of the city’s much-loved Basant festival.
The holiday period will begin on February 4 with Shab-e-Barat, followed by Youm-e-Kashmir on February 5. Both days are already listed as public holidays in the national calendar. The break will then continue from February 6 to February 8 to allow people to fully enjoy Basant, Lahore’s traditional kite-flying festival.
During these five days, schools, colleges, and government offices in Lahore will remain closed. The decision aims to give families time to relax together and take part in cultural activities across the city.
Authorities have advised citizens to follow safety rules, especially while flying kites, as Basant usually draws large crowds and can involve risks. Officials said special measures are being planned to ensure celebrations remain safe and well-organised.
Event planners are preparing a range of activities for the festival, including kite-flying competitions, cultural performances, music programs, and community events. The extended holiday is meant to celebrate Lahore’s rich cultural heritage while also offering residents a chance to unwind.
With five consecutive days off, Lahoris are expected to make the most of the break by spending time with loved ones and enjoying one of Pakistan’s most colourful and lively festivals.
