RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid on Tuesday urged authorities to ensure justice in recent legal cases, stressing that the guilty should be punished while innocent people must be released.
Talking to reporters outside the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, Rashid said some individuals have been given sentences as long as 40 years. He appealed to the Chief Justice to make sure appeals are heard quickly so that justice is not delayed.
Sharing his personal pain, Sheikh Rashid revealed that his own nephew has also received a 40-year sentence. He said families affected by such cases are going through deep suffering, adding that many homes are in mourning.
He strongly repeated his demand for fairness, saying that only those proven guilty should face punishment, while innocent people must not remain behind bars.
Sheikh Rashid also highlighted the serious problems faced by farmers. He said thousands of carts and roadside stalls have been destroyed, leaving many in the farming community struggling to survive. He urged the government to take immediate steps to support farmers and ease their hardships.
Speaking about education, Rashid expressed concern over the impact of inflation on students. He said Rawalpindi has around 60 educational institutions, but many colleges and universities are now seeing empty classrooms because families can no longer afford education. According to him, in some places, the number of teachers is now higher than the number of students, showing how badly rising prices are affecting society.
