Pakistan, Kazakhstan establish strategic partnership

Pakistan and Kazakhstan have formally established a strategic partnership following the issuance of a joint declaration during the official visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Pakistan.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said the joint declaration was issued after President Tokayev’s visit to Pakistan on February 3 and 4, undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The visit, the first by a Kazakh president to Pakistan in 23 years, was described as a historic milestone in bilateral relations.

According to the joint declaration, the visit marked the elevation of traditionally friendly relations between Pakistan and Kazakhstan to the level of a strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in bilateral cooperation. The leaders of both countries appreciated the steady development of friendly and brotherly ties rooted in historical, cultural and religious commonalities.

The declaration noted that Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize Kazakhstan’s independence, and that bilateral relations have strengthened significantly since the signing of the Declaration of Principles of Relations between the two countries in 1992.

Both leaders emphasized that firm adherence to the principles of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity forms the foundation of a stable and reliable partnership. They also welcomed the expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including politics, security, defense, trade, economy, agriculture, transport, logistics, education, culture, sports and tourism, as well as coordination on regional and global issues.

Outlining the key areas of the strategic partnership, the two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in line with the United Nations Charter and international law. The joint declaration stated that the enhanced partnership would not only deepen bilateral relations but also contribute positively to peace, security and stability in Central and South Asia.
