Google says Gemini tops 750 million monthly users after latest AI push

Google’s artificial intelligence chatbot Gemini has surged past 750 million monthly active users, marking a major jump in adoption following the rollout of the company’s latest AI upgrades.

The milestone was disclosed in Alphabet’s fourth-quarter 2025 earnings report, highlighting Gemini’s rapid rise as a key contender in the increasingly competitive global AI landscape. Google said the chatbot now attracts more than 750 million users each month, reflecting growing engagement across its platforms.

Only three months earlier, Gemini’s monthly active users stood at around 650 million, indicating a sharp quarter-on-quarter increase. The growth underscores accelerating public interest in generative AI tools embedded within Google’s ecosystem.

Despite its fast expansion, Gemini has yet to overtake market leader ChatGPT, which is estimated to have roughly 810 million monthly active users toward the end of 2025. Meta’s AI assistant, by comparison, reports close to 500 million monthly users, placing Gemini in second position among major consumer-facing AI platforms.

Google’s user gains follow the recent launch of Gemini 3, the company’s most advanced AI model so far. Google says the new version offers more detailed and nuanced responses, a factor that has helped drive higher engagement with the Gemini app.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai described the introduction of Gemini 3 in AI mode as a significant contributor to recent growth. He stressed that sustained progress will depend on continued investment and rapid development cycles.

Pichai also revealed that Google’s proprietary AI models are now handling more than 10 billion tokens per minute through direct API usage, signaling growing demand from developers and enterprises.

Alongside product upgrades, Google recently introduced a more affordable subscription tier called Google AI Plus, priced at $7.99 per month. While the plan was launched too late to influence the latest earnings results, executives believe it will help attract cost-sensitive users and support long-term expansion.

“We’re seeing strong growth across both free usage and subscriptions,” said Philipp Schindler, Google’s chief business officer, during the earnings call.

Gemini’s rapid expansion comes amid a strong financial performance for Alphabet. The tech giant reported annual revenue exceeding $400 billion for the first time, attributing much of the momentum to increasing demand for AI-driven products. Google has also unveiled a new AI accelerator chip, Ironwood, as it steps up competition with Nvidia in the AI hardware market.
