Sadia Imam critiques Aik Aur Pakeezah for reopening old wounds

Sadia Imam, the acclaimed Pakistani television actress and media personality, recently shared her thoughts on the drama series Aik Aur Pakeezah, describing it as unnecessary despite its critical acclaim.

Known for her stellar roles in dramas like Hum Se Juda Na Hona, Colony 52, Naseeb, Uljhan, Saath Sur Rishton Kay, and Mera Naseeb, Sadia Imam has also hosted shows including Mast Mornings with Sadia Imam and Samaa Kay Mehman. She currently co-hosts Kya Drama Hai as a drama critic.

In an interview with Nadia Khan on Ruse and Shine, Imam spoke candidly about the emotional impact of Aik Aur Pakeezah. She explained that while the drama is well-made, it depicts events that were traumatic for the real-life individuals involved.

“We often say dramas should reflect reality,” Imam said. “But some stories are deeply painful. Aik Aur Pakeezah, directed by Kashif Nisar, tells the story of two people who went through an extremely difficult experience in real life. The perpetrator is now facing justice, and the victims are living abroad, likely trying to move on. Bringing this story back through the drama, and seeing it recirculate online, can reopen old wounds. I keep thinking about what the family must be going through now.”

Imam highlighted the societal tendency to forget high-profile cases over time, which often leaves victims without closure. “Instead of allowing them to heal, such dramas revive the trauma. High-profile crimes rarely reach complete resolution, and revisiting these events can be painful for those involved,” she added.

Her comments sparked discussion about the balance between creating socially relevant content and respecting the privacy and emotional recovery of real-life victims.
