‘Dhurandhar’ becomes Netflix’s biggest Hindi hit

Filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s action thriller ‘Dhurandhar’ is enjoying a spectacular second life on Netflix, surpassing expectations and breaking records in the process.

After a highly successful theatrical run, the film premiered on Netflix on January 30. Within its first week, it became the most-watched post-theatrical Hindi release on the platform, overtaking major hits like Animal, Fighter, and Pushpa 2: The Rule.

The numbers are remarkable. Dhurandhar amassed 7.6 million views in its opening weekend, making it the first Indian film to cross seven million views after leaving cinemas. For comparison, Animal recorded 6.2 million views, Fighter had 5.9 million, and Pushpa 2 reached 5 million.

Netflix’s Tudum data shows that the film has also topped the weekly global Top 10 list of non-English films in seven countries. It has logged 26.1 million hours of viewing time and is trending at number one in Pakistan, despite its theatrical release being banned there.

The spy action thriller stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian agent operating in Lyari, Karachi, alongside a star-studded cast including Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan. The film has already earned over ₹1300 crore worldwide, and its strong online performance indicates that its popularity shows no signs of slowing down.
