Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja strongly criticized the events of February 8, describing them as a denial of the public’s mandate. Speaking at a press conference, he asserted that the party would ensure these events are not forgotten and pledged to continue political mobilization.
Raja emphasized that strikes and public demonstrations are a key part of PTI’s strategy, aimed at raising awareness and fostering resistance, rather than provoking violence. “This is about creating awareness and asserting our rights,” he said. “People cannot be pacified by temporary distractions; the time will come when millions rise together.”
He also spoke about the health of PTI founder Imran Khan, noting concerns remain but confirming that the Supreme Court has authorized a visit. Salman Safdar is scheduled to meet Khan at Adiala Jail at 2:00 PM today, allowing family and legal representatives to attend.
Raja expressed gratitude to those who supported the February 8 strike, highlighting the crucial role of youth in shaping the country’s political future. “Our struggle continues. Walking the streets is our right. Kite flying is only a one-day distraction,” he said.
Earlier, Junaid Akbar explained that his patience had run out because his opinions and concerns were repeatedly ignored within the party. He expressed disappointment at the lack of opportunity for meaningful debate, particularly during assembly sessions, and criticised colleagues for speaking only for themselves while shutting down others.
The PTI leader also questioned the authority of the party’s parliamentary leadership, highlighting confusion over who decides when and how members can participate in discussions. He criticised the lack of courage among some colleagues to openly raise important issues or challenge decisions in the assembly, including matters related to national security and terrorism.
While, The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Barrister Salman Safdar, a lawyer of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, to meet the incarcerated former prime minister at Adiala jail, declaring the counsel “friend of the court”.
“It is appropriate that a report be sought on the living conditions of the PTI founder. Barrister [Salman] Safdar should be given access to the barracks of the PTI founder so that he can give a written response,” said the court.
The SC further directed the lawyer to submit the report on Imran’s living conditions by tomorrow (Wednesday).
