Punjab’s largest-ever Dhee Rani mass wedding ceremony was held in Layyah, where 371 couples were married under the provincial government’s welfare initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged families.
The ceremony took place at the Layyah Sports Complex, where extensive arrangements were made to accommodate hundreds of guests. The newlywed couples were brought to the venue in a traditional procession featuring horses and camels, adding a cultural touch to the event.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Sohail Shaukat Butt attended the ceremony and distributed ATM cards to the newly married couples. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz was committed to taking inclusive welfare measures for people from all segments of society.
Deputy Commissioner Layyah Asif Ali Dogar welcomed the couples and guests at the venue.
He said that 371 couples had begun their new lives through the Dhee Rani programme, which reflects the Punjab government’s focus on social protection and dignity for deserving families.
The newlywed couples expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and appreciated Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for launching and supporting the initiative.
The ceremony was attended by several political and local figures, including MPA Sumiya Atta, former provincial minister Mehr Ijaz Achalana, Hasnain Gurmani (brother of MPA Ali Asghar Gurmani), former MNA Faizul Hassan Swag, PML-N District President Mehr Aslam Samra, and former MPAs Abdul Shakoor, Lala Tahir, Abid Alvi, Haji Ahsan, and Mehboob Ul Hassan.
Guests also lauded the district administration for ensuring smooth and well-organised arrangements throughout the event.
