Pakistan’s veteran weightlifter Maqsood Amjad Rathore won a gold medal at the World Masters Games in Abu Dhabi, delivering a standout performance in the weightlifting competition and bringing international recognition to the country.
According to Pakistan Weightlifting Federation Media Coordinator Sohail Javed Butt, the 66-year-old athlete competed in the 95kg bodyweight category, where he outperformed rivals from several countries.
Rathore lifted 55 kilograms in the snatch and 65 kilograms in the clean and jerk, recording a total of 120 kilograms to secure the top podium position.
Rathore was accompanied at the event by Nafees Ahmed of Karachi, who served as the official representative of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation.
The gold medal adds to Rathore’s already distinguished career. He has previously claimed a gold medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championship, and his latest triumph further strengthens his standing as one of Pakistan’s most successful senior weightlifters on the international stage.
Despite his age, Rathore displayed remarkable strength, discipline, and focus throughout the competition. His performance has been widely praised by sports officials, fellow athletes, and fans, who have described the victory as a proud moment for Pakistan.
