KP rebuilds 50 terror-damaged schools in Bara with Chinese support

BARA: In a major step towards restoring education in conflict-affected areas, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has rebuilt 50 schools that were destroyed by terrorism in Bara and nearby parts of Khyber district.

The reconstruction project was completed with financial and technical support from China at a total cost of Rs3.21 billion. Chief Minister Suhail Afridi formally inaugurated the restored schools, calling the initiative a milestone for the province’s education sector.

Officials said the project includes 35 primary schools, seven middle schools, seven high schools and one senior high school. All the institutions are now fully operational and have been handed over to the provincial Education Department. Thousands of students are expected to benefit from the improved and modern facilities.

The newly rebuilt schools are equipped with solar power systems, clean drinking water, cooling arrangements and proper sanitation facilities to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for children.

The revival of these schools has restarted academic activities in areas that were badly affected by militant violence in the past. Many communities had been deprived of basic education facilities after school buildings were damaged or destroyed.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister said rebuilding the schools was not just about constructing walls and classrooms but about securing the future of the younger generation. He said that while extremists tried to spread fear by targeting educational institutions, the government’s response was to promote education and hope.

The project is expected to strengthen access to quality education in the region and provide students with a secure environment to continue their studies.
