Qatar Emir, Trump push for peace as US-Iran talks continue

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on efforts to reduce regional tensions and promote stability in the Middle East. The discussion came as Washington and Tehran continue pursuing diplomatic solutions regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

The call focused on supporting dialogue and peaceful approaches to resolve regional crises. The leaders emphasized the importance of diplomacy to prevent any escalation into military conflict.

This development comes ahead of U.S.-Israel talks, where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to urge Trump to broaden negotiations with Iran. Israel wants the discussions to include Tehran’s missile program and other regional security concerns, beyond just its nuclear activities.

Qatar has been actively mediating in regional conflicts. Alongside the U.S. and Egypt, Doha has played a role in easing tensions in the Gaza conflict. The Emir has also welcomed Iranian officials to the country to encourage continued diplomatic engagement.

Ali Larijani, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, arrived in Doha to meet the Emir. The meeting aims to reinforce diplomatic channels between Washington and Tehran. Recent indirect talks held in Oman indicated that both sides are willing to continue dialogue, signaling cautious optimism for a peaceful resolution.
