Women can do everything’ as Pink Games open in grand style

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday delivered an energetic and empowering address while inaugurating the Khelta Punjab Pink Games at the Punjab Stadium, declaring that women are capable of achieving excellence in every field of life.

Addressing more than 3,000 female athletes present at the stadium, the chief minister said women can become politicians, pilots, fighters, and sports champions while also managing their homes with strength and dignity. She firmly rejected the notion that women are limited to household responsibilities.

“If anyone says that women can only do housework, do not even listen to them,” she remarked, adding that women have the ability to run institutions, provinces, and even the country.

Highlighting the improving law and order situation, Maryam Nawaz stated that Punjab has witnessed a decline in crimes against women. She praised the province’s youth, saying they possess extraordinary talent and the potential to conquer sports arenas at national and international levels.

The chief minister termed the successful celebration of Basant as proof of responsible governance and public cooperation. She noted that the festival was observed with enthusiasm across Punjab without any major violations. Strict safety measures were ensured, including protective rods on motorcycles, and after 5am no kites were visible in the sky.

“This is the spirit of Punjab and its people,” she said, announcing that Basant will now be celebrated every year. She also declared 2026 as the “Year of Youth” in Punjab, emphasizing her government’s commitment to empowering young people.
