Pakistan, US vow to bolster counter-terrorism cooperation

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday said that global cooperation is indispensable in the fight against terrorism, underscoring that Pakistan’s relationship with the United States holds key importance in this regard.

He made these remarks during a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia John Mark Pomerheim, it was reported on Thursday.

During the meeting, both sides discussed Pakistan-US bilateral relations and the regional security situation, with a particular focus on enhancing cooperation in counterterrorism and internal security.

The two sides also agreed to promote investment and partnership in the mining, minerals, and energy sectors. The interior minister welcomed American investment in these sectors, terming it vital for Pakistan’s economic development.

Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan believes in global partnerships to eradicate terrorism and promote investment, adding that US investors would be provided the safest possible environment in Pakistan.

He reiterated that cooperation with the United States remains crucial in the ongoing war against terrorism.

During the meeting, the US assistant secretary of state condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Tarlai and Quetta and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

He said the United States attaches great importance to its relationship with Pakistan and remains committed to continued engagement and cooperation.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, US Ambassador Natalie Baker, the Federal Secretary Interior, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
