PM Shehbaz vows to continue fight against extremism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to eliminating violent extremism and terrorism, saying the country will continue its national struggle against all forms of hate-driven ideologies.

In a message marking the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, the prime minister said extremist beliefs threaten peace, destabilize societies, and erode fundamental human values such as tolerance, mutual respect, and humanity.

He highlighted Pakistan’s long and costly battle against terrorism, noting that the country has made immense sacrifices over the past decades. He paid tribute to the security personnel and civilians who lost their lives, describing their sacrifices as a symbol of national resilience and determination.

The premier emphasized that Islam promotes peace, moderation, dialogue, and respect for human life. He stressed the importance of protecting young people from extremist influences by ensuring access to quality education, economic opportunities, and constructive thinking.

Shehbaz Sharif said that lasting peace depends on social justice, economic inclusion, and interfaith harmony. He added that unresolved conflicts, global injustices, and human rights violations often fuel extremism and violence.

Referring to the situations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, the prime minister said prolonged oppression and denial of basic rights contribute to instability. He urged the international community to play an active role in achieving fair and peaceful solutions to such longstanding disputes.
