Russia unleashed a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, firing hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles that targeted energy infrastructure and left at least seven people injured in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa, according to Ukrainian officials.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the strikes deprived civilians of power, heating, and water, calling the attacks a direct blow to peace efforts. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported hits on both residential and non-residential buildings across the capital, with fragments falling near homes but no fires breaking out. Witnesses in the city described hearing multiple explosions.
In Dnipro, regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha confirmed four injuries, including two young children, after missiles and drones struck residential areas. Odesa also came under attack, where one person was injured and fires broke out in an apartment building and a market. Governor Oleh Kiper said energy facilities in the district sustained damage.
Sybiha urged the international community to pressure Moscow into serious diplomacy, warning that each strike undermines efforts to end the war. Ukrainian and Russian officials recently met in Abu Dhabi under US mediation, but talks stalled over disputes concerning the Donetsk region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Washington must intensify pressure on Russia if it wants the conflict to end by summer. Meanwhile, Moscow continues to focus its attacks on Ukraine’s energy systems during the harsh winter, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
