Mangal claims authorities turning blind eye to Balochistan incidents

The Balochistan National Party head, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, on Saturday claimed that the Election Commission accepted his resignation 17 months after it was submitted.

Speaking to media persons in Hub, Mengal said the delay reflected what he described as a wider disconnect between authorities and the situation in Balochistan.

“I submitted my resignation 17 months ago, but the Election Commission has realised it only now. This shows they are unaware of what is happening across Balochistan,” he said.

Former Balochistan CM alleged that incidents in the province often go unnoticed by the authorities.

“When something happens anywhere else in the country, they remain silent.

But if something takes place in Lahore, it becomes a matter of grave concern for them,” he remarked, adding that violence and loss of life in Balochistan seldom receive the same attention.

Expressing regret over what he termed official “sensitivity,” Mengal said, “I can only express sorrow over the level of discomfort they show in certain situations.”

Announcing his future political course, the BNP chief stated that neither he nor any member of his family would contest the by-election in the constituency following his resignation.

He added that the decision on whether the party would participate in the by-election and who would be nominated as its candidate would be made by the party.
