Behind closed doors: Bollywood tries to end Don 3 controversy

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan hosted a private meeting at his Mumbai residence to mediate the ongoing dispute between actor Ranveer Singh and Excel Entertainment over the film Don 3. The gathering included top industry figures, but no cameras or official statements were allowed, keeping the discussions confidential.

Attendees reportedly included Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani from Excel Entertainment, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar of Tiger Baby Films, and Punit Goenka. Sources close to the talks confirmed the focus was resolving the financial and creative disagreement surrounding Don 3.

The dispute began after Ranveer Singh opted out of Don 3, leading Excel Entertainment to claim ₹40 crore in damages for pre-production and planning costs. Ranveer, however, denied receiving any advance and expressed dissatisfaction with the script, calling it incomplete. He also noted that he lost other projects, including Baiju Bawra, while awaiting Don 3’s schedule.

With tensions rising, the Producers Guild of India has intervened to help mediate the situation. Aamir Khan’s efforts are seen as an attempt to prevent the conflict from escalating further and maintain harmony within the industry.

The outcome of the mediation is yet to be announced, but insiders suggest that the meetings have created a hopeful environment for an amicable solution.

Earlier, Aamir Khan Productions has confirmed that its upcoming period drama Lahore 1947 will be released in Indian cinemas on August 13. A film centred on the Partition arriving during India’s Independence Day week carries inherent political and cultural weight, particularly at a time when mainstream Indian cinema has increasingly leaned towards hyper-nationalist narratives.

However, based on currently available information, Lahore 1947 appears to be positioning itself differently
