Two officials killed in militant attack on DI Khan police station

Two officials were martyred and two others injured when militants attacked the Yarik police station and a nearby customs office in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday, police confirmed.

The attackers opened fire with automatic weapons along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route, targeting the police station and the customs office. Customs official Israr Khan and police constable Mohammad Bilal were killed in the assault. The injured, Hazrat Umar and Khayal Mohammad, were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital’s trauma centre for treatment.

Officials said the militants also fired at passenger buses along the CPEC route, creating panic in the area. A customs vehicle was set on fire during the attack. Security personnel responded immediately, returning fire and forcing the assailants to flee. A large police contingent arrived at the scene, and a search operation was launched to apprehend those involved.

This incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks in the district. Earlier this month, four policemen, including a station house officer, were killed in an attack on a police party in Paniala’s Wanda Budh area. On January 24, a suicide explosion at a wedding ceremony killed five people, including a local peace committee leader, and injured ten others.

Authorities continue to investigate the attack and have intensified security measures across the district.
