No deal, no relief for Imran Khan, says Attaullah Tarar

Attaullah Tarar, the federal information minister, has strongly denied reports claiming that the government has offered any deal or special relief to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan. In a statement shared on social media, Tarar said there was “no deal and no leniency,” calling such reports false and misleading.

He stated that Imran Khan has been convicted by courts and is serving his sentence under the law, adding that the government has not provided any concessions. Imran has been in prison since August 2023 and is currently held at Adiala Jail after receiving a 14-year sentence in a major corruption case. He also faces other ongoing legal cases, including charges related to the May 9 protests.

The minister’s remarks came after comments by Rana Sanaullah, adviser to the prime minister on political affairs, who recently said attempts were made to find a political solution but Imran Khan was not willing to accept any deal. Sanaullah claimed that two serious efforts were made, but the demands presented by the former premier could not be accepted by the current government.

According to Sanaullah, one attempt involved talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Ali Amin Gandapur after protests in late 2024. Another effort reportedly involved individuals who came from abroad and met Imran Khan, but the matter did not move forward.

Earlier the statements from government officials also rejected claims of any agreement, while concerns about Imran Khan’s health have recently been raised by his party after reports suggested he had partial vision problems in one eye. Officials, however, maintain that any decision regarding his treatment will be made strictly according to medical necessity and legal procedures.
