Energy Minister Leghari orders old rules for pending solar net metering cases

Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari has ordered that all net metering applications submitted up to February 8 be processed under the previous regulatory framework, seeking to remove uncertainty surrounding pending cases, it was reported on Thursday.

Under the decision, applicants who filed their requests by the February 8 deadline will continue to receive the net metering facility in accordance with the old regulations.

Immediate implementation directives have been issued to all electricity distribution companies across the country.

According to a channel report, 5,165 applications were submitted by the cut-off date across all distribution companies, including K-Electric.

The approved applications are expected to add 250.822 megawatts of capacity to the national grid.

Officials said the minister’s decision has resolved confusion among consumers and stakeholders regarding the status of pending applications.

Leghari also instructed authorities to ensure transparency throughout the processing of these cases.

The minister further urged electricity consumers to lodge complaints through the helpline 188 in case of any grievances related to net metering or application processing.
