Strong earthquake jolts Peshawar, KP districts at Iftar time

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday evening, sending tremors across the provincial capital Peshawar and multiple districts at the time of iftar.

The quake, which originated at 6:10 pm, caused panic among residents who rushed out of their homes, shops, and mosques while reciting prayers.

Strong tremors were reported in several districts, including Upper and Lower Dir, Kurram, Nowshera, Abbottabad, Mardan, Swabi, Takht Bhai, Shangla, Khyber, Malakand, Mohmand, Charsadda, Swat, and Landi Kotal.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 73 kilometers.

The epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, at latitude 35.55°N and longitude 69.70°E.

Despite the intensity of the tremors being felt widely across the province, initial reports indicated no immediate loss of life or property damage.

Authorities have begun collecting detailed information from affected districts to assess the situation comprehensively.
