Jailed PTI leaders call for multi-party moot on Palestine

Detained leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have proposed convening a multi-party conference to discuss peace and stability in the Middle East and the Palestine issue.

The statement was issued from Kot Lakhpat Jail through their legal counsel by senior PTI figures including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mahmood-ur-Rasheed.

In their joint statement, the imprisoned leaders said that no meaningful debate had taken place in Parliament regarding the Palestinian issue or the rising tensions in the Middle East. They stressed the need for a comprehensive national dialogue on the matter.

The PTI leaders urged all stakeholders to reaffirm their support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. They stated that lasting peace in the region cannot be achieved without justice and a viable two-state solution.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated that a sovereign and independent Palestine is crucial for sustainable peace in the Middle East. Speaking at the opening session of the Gaza Peace Board in Washington, he described it as an important initiative to promote dialogue and resolve ongoing conflicts.

He stressed that the international community must respect United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Palestinian rights. According to him, granting Palestinians their rightful independence is not only a matter of justice but also essential for regional stability. He highlighted the urgent need to stop violence and enforce ceasefires in Gaza to protect civilians and prevent further bloodshed.
