The Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) has directed all its lawmakers to participate in daily protests outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad. The party aims to push for a comprehensive medical check‑up and proper treatment for its jailed leader, Imran Khan.
According to the party’s official instructions, all members of the National Assembly, Senate, and provincial assemblies must attend the demonstrations starting February 23. Lawmakers who are unable to join are required to submit written explanations. PTI says this continuous protest is necessary to press the authorities to address serious concerns regarding Imran Khan’s health.
Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023 in connection with multiple legal cases. Recently, questions about his well-being, including issues with his eyesight, have intensified public interest. PTI officials claim that government-issued medical reports cannot be trusted and insist that Imran’s personal doctors conduct a full examination.
The protests demand that all pending cases against him be expedited and that he be allowed access to family visits and proper medical facilities, including potential transfer to a hospital like Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. The party believes that adequate medical attention is critical and that delays in treatment are unacceptable.
Senior PTI leaders, including top lawmakers and party officials, have actively joined the sit-ins, highlighting the urgency of their demands. The demonstrations are also meant to maintain public awareness and keep pressure on the judiciary and government to act transparently.
Through these daily protests, PTI seeks to ensure that Imran Khan receives fair treatment and proper healthcare while in custody. The move underscores the party’s ongoing struggle with the government over the welfare of its leader and signals their determination to use public demonstrations as a tool for accountability.
