Sindh Bar Council urges President Zardari to sack Governor Tessori

The Sindh Bar Council has called on the federal government to immediately remove the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, alleging that the constitutional office is being used for political purposes, it was reported on Tuesday.

According to a strongly worded statement issued from Karachi today, the council said the governor had become involved in political activities and that the Governor House was being utilised for partisan objectives.

The Sindh Bar Council (SBC) argued in the statement that such conduct runs contrary to the constitutional responsibilities and neutrality required of the office of a governor.

The lawyers’ representative body urged President Asif Ali Zardari to take immediate action and dismiss the governor from his post.

It also maintained that the office of the governor must remain above party politics and function in accordance with constitutional principles.

The council also called upon the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to clarify its position on power-sharing arrangements with the federal government.

It further asked the party to make its stance clear regarding political groups that support the division of Sindh.

Emphasising the importance of constitutional neutrality, the Sindh Bar Council warned that no compromise would be accepted on the unity and integrity of the province.
