ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court Islamabad has expressed frustration over the failure to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders wanted in multiple cases.
Judge Tahir Abbas Supra conducted the hearing on cases registered against PTI leaders and workers in connection with the November 26 protest.
During the proceedings, the judge criticized law enforcement for not apprehending key accused, noting that out of approximately 17,000 suspects, only around 500 have had challans submitted. He said, “Only poor suspects have been presented; the main accused are still roaming freely.”
The court questioned why many proclaimed offenders, who have appeared in the High Court or Supreme Court, have not been arrested. It asked whether the police are selectively submitting challans and whether the prosecution is following up when records are returned. “Does the police not know who the proclaimed offenders are in these cases?” the judge added.
Judge Tahir Abbas Supra remarked that the situation is alarming, with wanted suspects openly moving around Islamabad, and warned that presenting selective challans undermines the judicial process.
The court summoned the SHO in Case No. 544 related to the November 26 protest for the next hearing and adjourned further proceedings until March 11.
