Punjab receives export orders of 500,000 tons potatoes

With the sincere efforts of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab has received orders for export of more than 500,000 tons of potatoes, it was reported on Friday.

Chairing an important meeting Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced important steps to make farmers self-reliant including recovery of barren lands in Punjab, hydroponics, agricultural exports, tractors, super seeders, solarization, Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar and stipends.

The meeting took major decisions that will change the fate of farmers from traditional farming to modern agriculture.

Maryam Nawaz decided to connect youth with agriculture and agriculture interns will now be part of the ‘Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar’ program and in this approval has been given.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif gave approval to increase the monthly stipend of agriculture interns to Rs70,000.

The meeting decided to introduce the “Rooftop Hydroponics” project for promoting home gardening under which 280 to 350 plants can be planted on a two-marla roof. The hydroponics scheme will increase vegetable production by 32 times.

The meeting decided that 10 pilot projects of hydroponics scheme to be started in Lahore and in this regard, it has been decided to contact housing societies.

The gave approval of solarization scheme of 10,000 diesel tubes across the province to make Punjab’s agriculture environment-friendly.

Punjab Agriculture Mechanization Project also targets to provide 28,000 super seeders across the province by 2028.

As many as 400 mini dams completed in Punjab under Pothohar Development Programme.

About seven million acres of land in South Punjab/Thal area will be made cultivable under “Transformation of Agriculture in Thal” area.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved fourth phase of CM Green Tractor Programme.

A subsidy of Rs1.5 million will be given on high horsepower tractor in Green Tractor Program Phase-4.

Meeting was told that there was a record sale of Rs462 million at Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Sargodha “Model Agriculture Mall”.

Home delivery will also be provided from “Model Agriculture Mall” up to 50 km, meeting was briefed.

CM Punjab set target to provide 6500 modern agricultural machinery by 2028 under High Tech Mechanization.

Over 500 wheat harvesters, 1000 rice harvesters, 1000 maize and silage harvesters, 2000 transplanters and balers and 2000 high Horsepower tractors will be provided.

The meeting was briefed that solarization of 7100 agricultural tubes has been completed in Punjab.

Under the Pothohar Development Program, 4500 acres of barren land has been made cultivable, olive cultivation has been completed on 1000 acres, meeting was briefed.

Under the Transformation of Agriculture in Thal area, drip sprinkler irrigation system and solarization of 1500 tube wells will be provided on 1000 acres.

Under the “Transformation of Agriculture in Thal” area, 1000 grams, sawing and harvesting machines will also be provided on subsidy.

Heavy industry, 50 bulldozers will be repaired and made usable from Taxila.

Punjab Agriculture Department will also purchase 50 new bulldozers.

The meeting decided to provide financial support of Rs50,000 per acre under “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar”.

The Agriculture Department will also provide assistance for land development and water resources under “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar”.

Wheat cultivation on 16.5 million acres Target met and wheat production expected to reach 22.30 metric tons.
