Marina Khan shares insights on Old PTV dramas

Veteran Pakistani actor and director Marina Khan recently shared her thoughts on critiquing classic PTV dramas such as Tanhaiyaan and Ankahi while appearing on the TV review show Kya Drama Hai.

Marina Khan rose to fame in the 1980s with iconic dramas including Tanhaiyaan, Dhoop Kinare, and Nijaat. Over the years, she has also gained recognition for her work as a director, with her recent project Dastak receiving praise from audiences and critics alike.

Currently, Marina Khan serves as a judge on Kya Drama Hai, a show that evaluates and reviews contemporary TV performances. In a recent interview on the Ramadan special of the comedy show Hasna Mana Hai, she discussed the unique experience of assessing old PTV hits.

Speaking about the classics, Khan said, “Watching Ankahi and Tanhaiyaan is always interesting. The language, the humor, the acting, and even the costumes—they all feel perfect. These dramas felt like family to us back then.”

She added that while the dramas seemed flawless at first glance, a closer look reveals minor imperfections. “Junior actors sometimes overacted, and I remember overdoing my laughter in some scenes as a newcomer. It’s fascinating to think about critiquing these classics today,” she said.

Khan expressed curiosity about how she would analyze these dramas in the context of today’s television industry. She believes that revisiting classics offers valuable lessons for both actors and viewers about storytelling, performance, and production quality.

The show Kya Drama Hai allows audiences to explore both modern and classic dramas, offering critiques that spark discussion about evolving trends in Pakistani television. Marina Khan’s insights add a unique perspective, bridging nostalgia with contemporary analysis.
