Punjab govt to impose 0.90% cess on import, export of goods

The Government of Punjab has decided to impose 0.90 percent cess on imports and exports of goods, it was reported on Tuesday.

According to details, the Punjab Infrastructure Cess Act 2926 already forwarded to the relevant standing committee.

Some amendments will be made in the Punjab Infrastructure Cess 2016. As per the draft of the act, the Cess will be imposed on all goods made in Punjab.

The 0.90 percent Cess will also be imposed on the goods that will pass through the Punjab province.

The Cess will also be imposed on the imported goods. Goods will be considered imported based on the registered business address.

The relevant authority will appoint Cess officers to monitor the goods. Customs officers may have the right to monitor and verify any items.

The relevant authorities have permitted the officers to set up checkpoints at the entry and exit points.

The Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee will submit its recommendations within two months.

The bill will be tabled in the Punjab Assembly for approval, and then it will be forwarded to the Punjab Governor who will give final nod to the Bill.
