The Government of Punjab’s finance department released its two-year performance report, which showed that Punjab’s total debt has reached Rs1.75 trillion till fiscal year 2025, while the debt was Rs1.67 trillion up to June 2024, it was reported on Wednesday.
The report further showed that the debt was raised by Rs80 billion during one year. From 2018 to 2025, Punja’s total debt was Rs1.1 trillion.
The report stated that the devaluation of the Pakistani rupee is the main cause of the increase in debt.
The 86 percent increase in debt is due to the effects of exchange rates. Punjab’s net borrowing was approximately Rs12 billion in fiscal year 2025.
